FW 1.00.1 systems do not have the recovery partition, it started with FW 1.00.2. Upgrading from FW 1.00.1 needs a complete erase of the nandflash and requires a new u-boot. This should be possible wthout opening the HDG with a SD card and some modifications on u-boot but in case of a problem, you would end up with a bricked unit...
