I have Just started using my 6022be scope when I measure the on board square wave it displays perfectly
When I measure our 240 volt mains supply using X10 probe I should get a perfect sine wave but I am getting some kind of distorted signal as can be seen in attached pictures
Any ideas

Stop! You can't probe mains voltage with this scope and x10 probe. You gonna permanently damage your scope, your probe, your PC and probably hurt yourself.

The maximum input voltage of the 6022BE is 5V peak, with a x10 probe you can measure 50Vp only. You are trying to measure 240Vrms that is 340Vpeak! (Vpeak = 1.41*Vrms) way higher. (Probably what you are seeing is the waveform clipped by the protection diodes, the pictures is not attached).

To do what you want safely you will need first some more knowledge (to understand the risks involved) and then, an isolation transformer and a high voltage probe with attenuation of at least x100, like the Hantek T3100. Ideally you want to use a high voltage differential probe (expensive).

There are some good and more detailed information on Youtube if you search for it.

thanks for the reply, I knew about the issues regarding measuring mains supply, but what I failed to realize was the Max Vp I thought it was 35Vp at x1 and 350Vp at x10
