1.3.3 Probe Attenuation Setting
Probes are of various attenuation factors which affect the vertical scale of the signal.
Make sure that the Attenuation switch on the probe matches the Probe option in the oscilloscope. Switch settings are 1X and 10X.
When the Attenuation switch is set to 1X, the probe limits the bandwidth of the oscilloscope to 6MHz. To use the full bandwidth of the oscilloscope, be sure to set the switch to 10X.

Nyquist Frequency and Aliasing in the Frequency Domain
The Nyquist frequency is the highest frequency that any real-time digitizing oscilloscope can acquire without aliasing. This frequency is half of the sample rate. Frequencies above the Nyquist frequency will be under sampled, which causes aliasing. The Nyquist frequency is also called the folding frequency because aliased frequency components fold back from that frequency when viewing the frequency domain.

Section 4 Using the Horizontal Controls
The horizontal controls consist of: the horizontal scale (SEC/DIV) knob, the horizontal position (POSITION) knob, and the (HORIZ MENU) key.
4.1 To adjust the horizontal scale
4.1.1 Turn the horizontal scale knob to change the horizontal time per division (sec/div) setting.
The sec/div setting changes in a 2- 4- 8 step sequence.
The sec/div setting is also known as the sweep speed.
When the sec/div is set to 80 ms/div or slower, the oscilloscope enters Slow Scan mode.
When the horizontal scale is set to 800 ns or faster, the oscilloscope uses sine(x)/x interpolation to expand the horizontal time base.
The sec/div setting is displayed in the status bar at the top left of the screen. Because all channels are displayed in the same time base (except in the Alternate trigger mode), the oscilloscope displays one sec/div setting for all channels.

Author: WisdomAugust    Time: 2016-11-4 14:35
4.1.2 Slow Scan Mode
When the horizontal scale is set to 80 ms/div or slower, the oscilloscope enters Slow Scan mode.
In the Slow Scan mode, peak detect acquisition is used so that no data is missed (even the though the Acquire menu may show a different acquisition mode setting). The oscilloscope acquires sufficient data for the pre- trigger part of the display, then waits for the trigger. When the trigger occurs, the oscilloscope continues to capture data for the post- trigger part of the display.
When using the Slow Scan mode to view low frequency signals, the channel coupling should be set to “DC”.
The Slow Scan mode lets you see dynamic changes (like the adjustment of a potentiometer) on low frequency waveforms. For example, Slow Scan mode is often used in applications like transducer monitoring and power supply testing.

Section 5 Using the Trigger Controls
An oscilloscope’s trigger function is important to achieve clear signal characterization, as it synchronizes the horizontal sweep of the oscilloscope to the proper point of the signal. The trigger controls let you stabilize repeating waveforms and capture single-shot waveforms. By repeatedly displaying similar portion of the input signal, the trigger makes repeating waveforms appear static on the oscilloscope display.

5.2 Choosing the Trigger Types
The trigger determines when captured data should be stored and displayed.
When a trigger is set up properly, it can convert unstable displays or blank screens into eaningful waveforms.
When the oscilloscope starts to acquire a waveform, it collects enough data so that it can draw the waveform to the left of the trigger point. The oscilloscope continues to acquire data while waiting for the trigger condition to occur. After it detects a trigger, the oscilloscope continues to
acquire enough data so that it can draw the waveform to the right of the trigger point.
The oscilloscope provides these trigger types:

6. Press Mode and continue pressing the softkey to select the sweep to trigger on:
? Auto Cause the oscilloscope to sweep, even without a trigger. If no signal is present, a timer in the oscilloscope triggers the sweep. This ensures that the display will not disappear if the signal drops to small voltages. It is also the best mode to use if you are looking at many signals and do not want to bother setting the trigger each time.
? Normal The oscilloscope only sweeps if the input signal reaches the set trigger point; otherwise the screen is frozen on the last acquired waveform. Normal mode can be disorienting since you may not see the signal at first if the level control is not adjusted correctly.
